A Fun New Project

I just love hanging new quilts in the shop! My friend Donna, just finished this fun quilt.  I don't think my photography really does it justis. The bues are prettier and the colors too.  It must be the lighing in the shop on a rainy day. Blah!!! It's really very summery looking. It makes you want to go out and have a picnic! Ah!  Such a day dream!  We would get wet today!  But, picnic weather is just around the corner.
This quilt is made from the "Snippets Two" book.  It just takes two "Layer Cakes" and some background fabric.  This line of fabric is "Reunion" from Moda. Donna reported that it was a fun quilt to make.  So if you are looking for something to work on that's fresh and summery.  Come on in!

Floral Sale Today

Here we are in the depths of winter in the great northwest.  The rain and the plain old darkness can be a bit much for us.  It can get downright GLOOMY around here.  However, being a quilter, I think we are lucky. We can get a little bit of sunshine just by working on a beautiful quilt with spring colors in it.  There is much written about "color therapy." I know I feel better having all the pretty spring colors around the shop.  We have had lot's of new lines of fabric come in just lately. Here is a new collection from  Free Spirit by Jane Sassaman. It just came in yesterday.  It's fun,  lively, and has some great colors!  It's just in time for our big sale!  Wednesday through Saturday this week is our "Mid Winter Floral Sale"  here at the shop.  All  yardage with anything hat grows from the dirt is 15% off.  Let's chase those winter blues away!

Get Signed Up For "The Buggy Barn" Class

Saturday, February 18th is our next "Buggy Barn" class.  THE Buggy Barn is a beautiful quilt shop just this side of Spokane.  If you have never been there, you should put it on you list of places to visit. Not only is it a great shop the owners are wonderful  designers of THE FUNNEST quilt patterns I know of.  I have been addicted to their technique since the first one of their books that I picked up over twelve years ago.  Now, I think I have about 10 quilts done using their patterns.  I Love them!  they are playful and easy to do.  If you use fabrics that you love, you are guaranteed to have a great time making the quilt.  This is one of their newer books.  I think it came out last summer.  I have already done the "Turkey Quilt" From it and I will be starting one that is soooo cute that has tea pots and  tea cups. I can't Wait to start picking out the fabric.  So if your interested,  we have a fun class coming up.  give me a call and we will get you signed up. I know your going to love it!

The Ferocious Quilt Eating Dog

For those that would like to look away.......  Here he is Henry! The ferocious quilt eating dog.  Here he is sitting on the quilt with at least twenty holes in it.  This little guy can LOOK so Innocent.  Believe me... He's not!  One day I left the living room with him playing with a little stuffed animal.  Approximately  three minutes latter I came back.  There was stuffing literally falling from the sky. It was all over the room.  He was covered in it! He even some on top of his head.  He gives me this look  like "Look what somebody else did!"  "It really wasn't Me" What a goof!  I have more quilts.  However, they won't probably be on my bed for a while.

I Got The Blues For You! (and yellows & greens)

Now, this collection is a breath of fresh air.  It's from Moda, called "Summer Breeze".  It is soooo fresh and beautiful.  I have been thinking of something wonderful to make with it.  (As if I need another project!)  Perhaps, I will make one of our quick throw quilts with the charm packs.  Or maybe I'll just have to take the full collection of fat quarters home and figure something out latter.  That way I HAVE it.  Is that a quilters thinking, or what?
The latest addition to our family (Henry the wiener dog)  has chewed holes in the quilt on my bed. (He is just the sweetest little guy, But he has issues!)  I think he has stopped that habit now.  So maybe this will be a new quilt on my bed.  On the other hand,  I should probably wait and make sure he's stopped.  I would be sooo sad if he did it to a new quilt.  I swear, we should have named him "Darn You"  I can't tell you how many times we have called him that.  "Darn You Henry!!!"

A Sweet Baby Quilt!

Isn't this the cutest little guy?  It's a new pattern from a new designer.  Her name is Lisa Muilenburg, and her pattern company is "Counted Quilts".  I think shes got some really cute patterns.  This is the first one we've gotten, but she has lots of really cute ones that I think will show up in the shop real soon.  She has Dinos, bears, elephants and a really sweet whale.  She says all of the patterns are quite easy and they are all pieced!  No applique.
I bet we all know a little person that would love this quilts!

What a Difference Two Weeks Can Make!

Oh what a beautiful morning!  Can you believe just two week ago we were snowed under?  If you look real close to this planter, you may notice some tulip bulbs coming up.  WOW!!!  Did you notice that the days are getting a bit longer.  It was still light at 5pm last night!  And, inside the shop, we are starting to get some really beautiful spring fabric!   Tulips and roses, all in pretty spring colors.  Spring will be here before we know it!

It's Virginia's Birthday

Happy Birthday To You Dear Virginia!  I just absolutly love this dear girl!  She is my oldest sons girl friend.  She has spent many days here in the shop learning to quilt, and I think she has grown on all the ladies that come in.  I told my son not so long ago that if anything ever happens between them, I will probably have to choose Virginia!  I hope she has a very wonderful day!  Happy, Happy, Happy!!!!

Tri County Quilt Tour Will Be Here In NO Time!!

Oh Me, Oh My!  Sometimes I get just a little overwhelmed with all the dead lines there are in life.  It's that time of year again, that all the great shops in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom county get together to host a wonderful weekend of quilting pleasure for all of you.  There are 13 shops, and we all design a block pattern that gets made up by each shop into a one of a kind quilt.  None of us know what the other shop is doing.  What fabrics they are using and how they will lay out the quilt is a mystery. (Here's a sneak peek at one of my blocks.) Then...... Wednesday - through Saturday, March 21st through March 24th, all of you get to go on a wonderful adventure to stop in to our shops pick up a free block pattern, see our creations and enjoy the fun atmosphere. All the shops try to have drawings and fun games or door prizes. It's been a really fun "shop hop."   This year the Name of the event Is "Sew Northwest" I feel it's been more fun to do this one than the big one in June.  This year we are doing something new. Each of our shops are also giving out  cute little charm with a a purchase.   I'm really looking forward to it.  So mark your calendar now and get some friends together.  I know you will enjoy it!  For more information, and a list of the shops, go to www.quilttour.com

Quilting Is The Icing On The Cake! YOU Can Do It!

When I first learned to quilt, I remember I thought I would ONLY hand quilt everything I made.  I was kind of a snob!  "Real quilts had to be Hand quilted".  Well, that only lasted for about three quilts.  They probably took me years to do. Now, over twenty years latter,  I have decided that there are WAY too many quilts in me to hand quilt them all.  I still love hand quilting and will always have one quilt on the side that will be hand quilted (When I get time)

Machine quilting, over the past fifteen years has become "The Icing On The Cake!"   I love the way it looks!  And guess what. I can do it!  Yep! on my own "Regular" machine.  I know that YOU can do it too.  It takes some practice.  But if you are willing to put some time into it.  YOU CAN DO IT!  I found this really nifty blog by Leah Day, called "The Quilting Project".  Scroll down to my favorite blogs and click on hers.  Its really fantastic!  She has great videos and daily tips and tricks.  Then get some fabric out and make some layers and try it.  YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Oh, Just so you know..... I didn't quilt this pretty green quilt.  My friend Sharon Szekely did it.  This one is so nicely quilted that no one ever asks me who appliqued it. They just want to know who quilted it.  Hmmm......  Maybe next time she could not do such a good job?
